Radha Soami Satsang Beas
Radha Soami Satsang Beas (RSSB) was founded by Baba Jaimal Singh in 1891 at a site on the West bank of the River Beas, in Beas, Punjab Northern India. Today this site is called Dera Baba Jaimal Singh.
Sant Seth Shiv Dayal Singh, was the first leader of Radhasoami Community, taught 'Surat Shabd Yoga,' often the teachings are referred to as Sant Mat, the 'Teachings of the Saints'.
Today Radha Soami Satsang Beas is succeeded by Babaji Gurinder Singh, who was officially appointed by Maharaj Charan Singh (guru). Radha Soami Beas satsang is a non-profit charitable society and is an autonomous body, which doesn't bear allegiance to any of the other Radhasoami/Sant Mat groups or satsangs.
Teachings and Philosophy
'Radha' means Soul & 'Soami' means Lord. Hence Radhasoami can be translated into meaning Lord of the Soul.
The Radha Soami teachings lay down a method for Self Realization leading to God Realization, through the means of Surat Shabd Yoga. Satsang describes a group that seeks truth, and Beas refers to the town near which the main centre is located in northern India. There are a number of other contemporary movements that use the name ‘Radha Soami’ but Radha Soami Satsang Beas is not associated with any of them.
The technique of the yoga/meditation is imparted under the instructions of a teacher (present day teacher: Baba Gurinder Singh), or his personally selected representatives. It is through this union of the soul with the Audible Life Stream that gives this meditation practice its name - The Surat Shabd Yoga.
To assist in the practice of the Surat Shabd Yoga, one must be a lacto vegetarian (no eggs, fish, fowl or meat), abstain from recreational drugs and alcohol, and lead a moral life (including among other things confining sexuality to a legal marriage). The vegetarian diet encourages respect and empathy for all life and acknowledges that there is a debt to be paid for taking any life. The required lifestyle aids concentration, calming and centering the mind.
Before one decides to adopt the Surat Shabd Yoga meditation, one is strongly advised by the present master Baba Gurinder Singh Dhillon, to research not only Radha Soami Satsang Beas philosophy and teachings, but any other mysticism teachings or yoga systems that may interest the seeker. This allows the seeker to be 100% intellectually satisfied that this is the right choice for them as individuals. Also that they are able to adhere to the vegetarian diet and the lifestyle change of no alcohol or recreational drugs and are able to take time out to practice the meditation.
People are able to practice the Surat Shabd Yoga meditation, while still remaining a part of their community and religious customs. It is a solitary practice that is done in the quiet of one's own home for at least 2 1/2 hours each day. Members commit themselves to a way of life that supports spiritual growth while carrying out their responsibilities to family, friends and society.
The teachings are also referred to as Sant Mat, meaning 'Teachings of the Saints' (past and present). The Radha Soami Satsang Beas community and members are from diverse ethnic, social and religious backgrounds. The teachings are available to anyone interested and no fees are charged for imparting the philosophy or Surat Shabd Yoga system.
Charity Work
Today the Beas ashram, known as simply the 'Dera', maintains a free kitchen called 'Langar', as well as canteens and snack bars at a nominal price.
Three Charitable hospitals were built and run by RSSB. Beas Hospital, Sikanderpur Hospital and the Bhota Hospital provide free medical care for the rural community surrounding it and aid the needy. They include free accommodation for relatives of their patients. RSSB has also helped in relief efforts of victims of natural disasters. An annual eye clinic gives medical aid to people suffering eye-ailments, including the removal of cataracts (Stopped 2/3 years ago). Volunteers are from diverse ethnic, cultural and social backgrounds.
Promoting Awareness
A Library has been constructed to house nearly 500,000 books on all the world religions, philosophies and mysticism. The library is open to all seekers, researchers and scholars.
Radha Soami Satsang Beas encourages voluntary service to the community.
This group is environmentally aware and plants thousands of trees yearly, applying organic farming methods and encouraging social awareness within the community.
Geographical Location
The mission begun by Baba Jaimal Singh at the turn of the 19th century, Radha Soami Satsang Beas, has its headquarters known by the name of 'Dera Baba Jaimal Singh' near the river Beas in Beas, Punjab, Northern India since 1891. Today the colony has expanded enormously and houses nearly 6000 residents and the average number of visitors daily is about 200,000 or more. Visitors come from all over the world. Dera Baba Jaimal Singh, or simply the ‘Dera’ as it is generally known, is a mini-township with 6,000 residents. Since the Dera is the home of the spiritual leader of the organization, large crowds visit on specially designated weekends to hear his discourses. These crowds average more than 250,000 people daily.
The Venue
The Radha Soami Headquarters provides a sheltered venue for these gatherings. The RSSB Headquarters is also known as the 'Dera'. The Dera’s engineering department has constructed one of the largest covered structures in Asia, designed and fabricated on site using a lightweight space-frame technology. The roof covers more than 32 acres (130,000 m2) and can accommodate a crowd of 275,000. A computerized digital audio system was specially designed for the venue to provide the best possible sound for such a challenging environment.
Food
To feed the visitors three meals a day, several approaches are taken. The langar (a place where food is served free of charge) is the primary means. The free langar complex covers over 48 acres (190,000 m2) and operates around the clock. Capable of feeding up to 300,000 people per meal, 50,000 in a single sitting, it has a mostly volunteer staff who prepare and serve simple but nourishing food.
Shelter
The colony is visited by people from around the world and all walks of life. To provide temporary accommodation for everyone, a variety of facilities are offered, all free of charge. There are a number of guest hostels with individual rooms and attached baths, hostels with dormitory-style rooms, and other large buildings to house visitors.
The Community
The Dera seeks to be as self-sufficient and environmentally friendly as possible. Every year thousands of trees are planted. Many lawns and parks beautify the colony and provide space for visitors and residents to rest and relax. More than 1,000 acres (4.0 km2) of land are cultivated for growing vegetables and fruits that are used in the langar and by Dera residents. Organic farming methods are being adapted to local conditions. The Dera has its own water supply, water treatment plant and solid waste treatment facility. It has its own electrical sub-station and large electrical generator back-up facility to supply emergency power to the whole community.

Radha Soami Satsang
(Self Realization)
Radha Swami (at River Beas) teachnig directly deals with the Path of the Masters and The Path of Love.
Radha Soami Satsang Beas "is a scientific method of … [God realization] within us, while we are still living in the here and now," according to Great Satguru Maharaj Charan Singh Ji , the previous Living Master. It is "a school of practical spiritual training for God realisation" and "does not consist of any rites, rituals, ceremonies, dogmas, priesthood, or church or temple worship."
"Living in the world and discharging all our obligations towards wife, children, relatives, friends, and humanity, we have simply to turn our heart Godward. The saints' teachings are very simple. They say that all the woe, misery, and anguish that is the lot of the human race are due to our sad separation from God. This world, which we love so much, is not our true home. "Unless [the soul] returns to its ancient original home, its sorrows and sufferings cannot and will not end. For this purpose, it need not seek anywhere outside of itself. Our body is the temple within which the Lord resides.
"The method of God-realisation taught by all the saints, to whichever country or religion they have belonged, has always been the same and will ever be the same. It is the Lord's own design and is as old as the creation itself. It consists of three parts: "First is simran, or the repetition of Lord's holy names.
Radha Soami Dhyan
"Second is dhyan, or contemplation on the immortal form of the Master. This helps in keeping the attention fixed at that centre. "Third is bhajan, or listening to the Anahad Shabd or celestial music that is constantly reverberating within us. With the help of this divine melody, the soul ascends to higher regions and ultimately reaches the feet of the Lord.
A disciple, or satsangi, practices lacto-vegetarianism, abstains from drugs and alcohol, upholds prescribed high moral values, and works for a living (no renunciation of the world). Sant Mat initiations are personal and the spiritual experiences one has during meditation are not to be shared with others as this asserts the ego, thus hindering spiritual progress. Significantly, the Master and Dera are self-supporting and money is never charged for any Sant Mat related activities. A true living Master never accepts any money from his disciples. This is one sign of a true saint.
Radha Soami Satsang Beas, a Spiritual Centre in Northern India Beas (Punjab), their teachings and philosophies are really amazing and based on the scientific methods rather than just only belief or superstitions. A human being can attain true salvation by just following their paths, which basically includes, leading a moral life and practicing the "Paanch Naam". Radha Soami is not a myth or a way adopted from any superstitions but it's a scientific approach for the true Seekers of truth and salvation.
In Bhagavad-Gita Lord SriKrishna says to Arjuna:
ReplyDelete“I taught this immortal Yoga to Vivasvan (sun-god), Vivasvan conveyed it to Manu(his son), and Manu imparted it to (his son) Iksvaku. Thus transmitted to succession from father to son, Arjuna, this Yoga remained known to the Rajarisis (royal sages). It has however long since disappeared from this earth. The same ancient Yoga has this day been imparted to you by Me, because you are My devotee and friend, and also because this is a supreme secret”.
At this Arjuna said: You are of recent origin while the birth of Vivasvan dates back to remote antiquity. How, then, I am to believe that you taught this Yoga at the beginning of creation? Lord SriKrishna said: Arjuna, you and I have passed through many births. I remember them all, you do not remember.
1. Radha Soami Faith was founded by His Holiness Param Purush Puran Dhani Huzur Soamiji Maharaj on the prayer of His Holiness Huzur Maharaj who later on became second Spiritual Head of Radha Soami Faith. The prime object of the Radha Soami Faith is the emancipation of all Jeevas (Souls) i.e. to take the entire force of consciousness to its original abode. There is a tradition of succession of Gurus or Spiritual Adepts in Radha Soami Faith. I am one of them as is evident from the following facts or ….
“My most Revered Guru of my previous life His Holiness Maharaj Sahab, 3rd Spiritual Head of Radhasoami Faith had revealed this secret to me during trance like state.
HE told me, “Tum Sarkar Sahab Ho” (You are Sarkar Sahab). Sarkar Sahab was one of the most beloved disciple of His Holiness Maharj Sahab. Sarkar Sahab later on became Fourth Spiritual Head of Radhasoami Faith.
Since I don’t have any direct realization of it so I can not claim the extent of its correctness. But it seems to be correct. During my previous birth I wanted to sing the song of ‘Infinite’ (Agam Geet yeh gawan chahoon tumhri mauj nihara, mauj hoi to satguru soami karoon supanth vichara) but I could not do so then since I had to leave the mortal frame at a very early age. But through the unbounded Grace and Mercy of my most Revered Guru that desire of my past birth is being fulfilled now.”
